Pete has worked in virtually every field of music conceivable, both live and in the studio. From pop and rock, to free jazz and the classical avant garde. From traditional Carnatic and Hindustani music of North and South India to traditional Japanese taiko drumming. Straight blues, funk and rock drumming to collaborations with classical, folk, ethnic and experimental musicians. One of Pete's main calling cards is his ability to play traditional instruments out of their normal cultural setting and make them sit within the music comfortably. He has performed live at festivals and concert halls all over the world.

He has also worked extensively in the film industry and can count the two recent Bond movies, Tomorrow never dies and The world is not enough amongst his credits, along with City of angels (Meg Ryan), The Insider (Al Pacino), Plunkett & Maclean (Robert Carlisle), The bone collector, Kevin & Perry go large and the new Guy Ritchie film Snatch as well as TV and advertising credits which are too numerous to mention.

A basic list of instruments covered by Pete includes the following:

North / South Indian percussion: tabla, mridangam, kanjira, ghatam, vocal percussion, dholak, naal, bhangra dhol.

Middle Eastern percussion: darabuka, req, bendir, frame-drums.

Cuban/Brazilian percussion: congas, bongos, timbales, berimbau.

Featuring Joji Hirota and Pete Lockett

A unique fusion of world music traditions featuring an awesome array of drums, cymbals, gongs, bells and customised sound effects, merged into a compelling and rhythmically dynamic soundscape.

Gripping and powerful taiko rhythms blend with the intricate finger rhythms of the Indian tabla and Arabic framedrums. The warm tones of the Shakuhachi (Japanese bamboo flute), and Japanese folk singing are supported by the driving grooves of the African djembe, Cuban bongos and mesmerising phonetic rhythms from South India.

The show has over 40 drums on stage, and features two of the most versatile multi-instrumentalists in the UK. Pete has worked with Björk, Kula Shaker, Vanessa-Mae, Rory Gallagher, Bill Bruford and Beth Orton amongst many others, and can count the two recent James Bond movies amongst his film credits. He has an album out on the MELT 2000 label which coincided with his Contemporary Music Network Arts Council UK tour in Autumn 1999. Joji has worked with Bill Evans, Jah Wobble, and spent some years as musical director of the Lindsay Kemp dance company. He has recently released a new album The Gate on Real World records.
