Ravi Prasad, born in the southern province of Kerala in India; entered University as a Chemistry student only to perform in an end of year college show and never to return to Chemistry. He went to study Indian classical music at the Central Carnatic College, Madras and after receiving his diploma Ravi went on serve an apprenticeship in music, theatre and choreography, performing with some of the most prestigious artists in India.
When Ravi arrived in France he quickly became involved in different branches of music, from Jazz to electro-acoustic. He gave a great number of concerts with artist such as Bernard Lubat, Nana Vasconcelos, Giovana Marini and the guitarists Gerard Marais and Pedro Soler.
In the early 90's he created the Padhani Ensemble, comprising twelve singers with whom Ravi developed the concept of "Indian polyphonic music". He then went on to sing with the trombone player Philippe Renault and pianist Guillaume de Chassy. This trio "Ithal",was loosely constructed around jazz, Indian music and the harmonic thinking of Claude Debussy.
Ravi has been touring Europe and India performing with the Chopinot Dance Company, one of France's the most successful companies. Amazingly Ravi has also found time to write and record the very first Indian symphony entitled "Mythia". |
